Who am I

Behind Wabi-Sabi Livingware is an entrepreneur from Utrecht with a keen eye for structure and a deep appreciation for aesthetics. My professional background lies in the financial sector as a business controller. In a world of hard numbers and logic, I found my balance in the stillness of handmade objects and the richness of different cultures.

Inspiration without borders

My vision of living and design has been shaped by travels to countries like China, Japan, South Korea, and Spain. In each of these countries, I saw how daily rituals — from an elaborate coffee ceremony to a simple dinner — were enriched by the right customs and materials.

Wabi-Sabi Livingware grew out of a wish to make that cultural inspiration tangible. Every line is designed in Spain, while production goes to artisan partners chosen collection by collection for where their craft is strongest — Cosmos's hand-shaped stoneware comes from Turkey, the reactive porcelain of Elite, Aura, Zafiro, and Velvet comes from specialized studios in China, and our coffee cups are hand-thrown by artisans in Japan, always in the place where that specific craft is strongest. My ambition is to expand this further with direct, ethical imports from more of the countries that first inspired me, always on the condition of transparency and honest craftsmanship.

The hands behind the tableware

Every piece passes through human hands before it reaches your table: shaped, painted, checked. Some lines wear that visibly — no two plates quite alike. Others deliberately choose a clean, repeatable finish instead; that too is a choice people make, not the coincidence of an unsupervised machine. That distinction is what separates a household object from one with a soul, to me.

A personal motivation: Neurodiversity

Wabi-Sabi Livingware is a reflection of how I see the world. As an entrepreneur with autism, I place great value on a low-stimulus, harmonious environment and the beauty of being 'different.' In the Japanese philosophy of Kintsugi — repairing fault lines with gold — we see that imperfection gives an object its character.

We apply this philosophy to how we run the business too. We strive for an inclusive world where we specifically make room for neurodiverse talent and people with distance to the labor market. At Wabi-Sabi Livingware we celebrate people and objects exactly as they are: unique, lived-in, and full of individuality.
