The Caramel coffee cup carries a soft gradient from honey-brown into beige, like morning light over stoneware. Handmade in Japan, so no two cups are quite alike. Inspired by the Japanese chawan, and just as suited to your daily coffee, tea, or matcha.

Also known as a matcha bowl — this handle-less cup is held the same way as a traditional chawan.

Yes, both. Do avoid extreme temperature swings, though — a cold plate straight into a hot oven — to prevent hairline cracks in the glaze.

Does my set differ from the photo?

Probably a little, yes. This is handwork, so differences in shape, glaze thickness and colour depth are part of it. That's not a flaw — that's why you're buying it.

Preserving the quality

  • Thermal shock: avoid extreme temperature swings (cold to hot) to prevent cracking.
  • Cutlery marks: any metal marks on the glaze come off easily with baking soda.
  • Drying: dry the pieces well after washing and store them somewhere ventilated.

Great gift that I kind of wish I had kept for myself!
This and the “Swept Earth” cup were the gifts I gave to a friend of mine. They match quite well and so would every other beautiful cup in this collection. My friend is an avid tea and matcha drinker and she said that the size is perfect for the whisking part of it.
Personally I love using the cups that I also got for myself for my everyday tea or coffee. They are robust and handle hot drinks well, so my hands never burn even if the water in the cup had literally just been boiling.
The color is a lovely glossy earthy yellow that goes with pretty much anything. They are definitely authentic and the designs are just charming. I also personally felt like I was getting a cup directly from an artist because they all came wrapped in a Japanese newspaper (besides the other protective packaging).
Definitely would recommend, the pieces arrived quickly and safely, the quality is unmatched, it genuinely elevated my tea drinking experience and I cannot go back.
